January 2011 – I was commissioned to design a contemporary garden for my clients in Cale Green, Stockport, Greater Manchester. Their brief was for a contemporary courtyard style which was to be an exterior extension of their modern kitchen extension creating an outdoor space for entertaining and relaxation. They also required a built-in BBQ which didn’t dominate the space, raised white rendered planting beds and a planting scheme with a limited colour palette of whites, silver, green, lavender and black. The poor appearance of the fencing on their boundaries was also to be improved. The challenge was to fit all their requirements into a long and very narrow space.
The garden was built in 2012 but after problems with the rendering not being carried out properly and months spent sorting this problem out this year, the garden is now finished but not yet planted up.
My clients are looking forward to next spring when the plants go in and the new outdoor rattan sofas and table come out of storage from their cellar and can finally be placed in the garden. Let’s hope for a great summer in 2014 so they can finally enjoy their garden.
Photos of the finished garden will be taken next year and the garden will be included in my portfolio.
