This garden’s borrowed view is across open farmland to The Edge beyond. This is also a garden of two halves, the area immediately behind the house and an area of grass beyond which could not be developed. With a much used heated outdoor swimming pool the brief was for a garden with a Mediterranean feel. To make the pool safe from small children iron railings were installed to cordon this area off, new paving was laid around the pool and a pergola erected for shade with a seating area beneath. In the garden next to the house, small terracotta style paving tiles were laid and a large sun deck built. The planting was sympathetic to the style using ornamental grasses, phormiums, yuccas, phlomis and kniphofia. Larger specimen Italian cypress were planted for instant impact.
