Creation of a natural swimming pool in Cheshire.
Have you every dreamed of lazing beside your own natural swimming pool? Perhaps taking a quick dip outdoors? Imagine swimming in clear, clean water in a chemical-free environment. Natural Swimming Pools or Ponds are becoming increasingly popular throughout the country. An installation, next to King’s Cross Station, London opened in July 2015 – conceivably one of the least likely places for a dip in reed-fringed fresh water. If you like the idea of swimming whilst swallows dip and dragonflies flit around you, then this is for you.
During the design process, my clients decided they would include a natural swimming pool. Award-winning company who use the proven BIOTOP system was chosen. After collaborating with them, I incorporated the feature into my landscape designs. Then a huge amount of excavations and construction began!
The first job was to clear the site and the rear garden boundary of most of the existing trees and shrubs. My clients’ brief was for open views across the fields. Also, fallen leaves during Autumn, would not have been ideal for the pool.
The diggers arrived on site and soon a massive hole where there was once a lawn appeared. Over the course of the next 50 days the pool was built.
During the construction of the natural swimming pool my landscaping contractors worked alongside the pool contractors. A massive larch deck was built by them. This incorporated a reinforced concrete base, complete with drains, in readiness for a bespoke Breeze House. The Breeze House was to be an L-Shaped structure with a fully fitted outdoor kitchen in one end and dining facilities for 12 at the other. Also within the Breeze House there was additional seating, flat screen TV, broadband and lighting. Also, a sunken firepit area with bespoke gas fire pit was built. This circular area would enjoy views across the pool and countryside and bespoke curved timber seating was to wrap around the pit.
The construction of this country garden in Aston, Nantwich, Cheshire started in May and was completed in October 2015. Apart from the construction of the Natural Swimming Pool, the rest of the landscaping was undertaken by Platinum Gardens and Driveways. During this period they built a fully fitted outdoor kitchen and wood burning pizza oven inside the Breeze House. Landscaped a large inner courtyard. Re-landscaped the front garden and driveway. They also installed a second driveway in another part of the grounds. Not only that, they also built a kitchen garden area with raised vegetable beds and composting bins. Installed a huge amount of new rabit fencing including new field gates. Built a 22mx33m football pitch and installed a wildflower meadow! Quite an achievement in 6 months I think you will agree.
As usual I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Chris Bestall and the guys at Platinum Garden and Driveways, an RHS Tatton Silver and Silver-Gilt winning landscaping company, who built this whole project from my designs. It was at times quite testing but they overcame all the problems and created amazing outdoor spaces!!
