Back in August 2012, I was commissioned to design a family garden on a sloping site. The brief was for a large flat area so that my clients’ son could play cricket and football on a flat site rather than the sloping lawn they had at that time. The main ‘must have’ was for a large entertaining patio next to their open plan family room/kitchen – very much taking the inside to the outside. The garden had to be modern/contemporary in style and the planting to be low in maintenance. An extension to the house was also being built and the design needed to tie all these areas together. Design and Planting Plans were completed and works started in Spring this year.
Main events so far:
– Two large birch trees felled (much to the neighbour’s delight as he now has more light in his garden!). The best of the existing planting was transplanted into holding beds for reuse.
– Tonnes and tonnes of sub soil have been removed from site and the large level area was created for the flat lawn
– Stepped concrete block walls & steps have been built, colour rendered, sawn stone copings fixed and eyelid path lights positioned. The chosen paving & coping is Stonemarket Avant-garde Caramel laid with minimal joints for a clean, contemporary style.
We are now at the stage where the lawn is being laid and the shrub planting is being undertaken. The perennials will go in next Spring and the garden will be photographed next year and included in my portfolio.
